IT'S MAGIC

IT’S MAGIC by Nina Nolte

Nina Nolte’s artwork IT’S MAGIC, part of her series THE BEST IS YET TO COME, encapsulates the essence of leisurely sophistication and the allure of serene moments. Originally painted with acrylics on canvas, this high-quality print reproduction is available in sizes S, M, and L, allowing viewers to bring a touch of elegance into their own spaces.

The composition centers on a woman seen from behind, lounging by a pool. She is captured in a moment of quiet contemplation and relaxation, holding a glass of wine in her right hand. Her head is wrapped in a stylish black and white patterned turban, which adds a touch of retro glamour to the scene. The woman’s posture, with her shoulders slightly angled and her gaze directed towards the pool, suggests a sense of calm and introspection. Her skin is depicted with soft, smooth brushstrokes, emphasizing the tranquility of the moment.

The use of color in IT’S MAGIC is both striking and soothing. The aqua blue of the pool water dominates the background, creating a refreshing and vibrant contrast to the softer tones of the woman’s skin and the muted green of her swimsuit. The light reflections on the water’s surface are rendered with delicate, almost ethereal brushstrokes, enhancing the dreamy atmosphere of the painting. This use of color and light not only captures the physical beauty of the scene but also evokes the serene, almost magical quality of spending a quiet afternoon by the pool.

The artist’s attention to detail is evident in the depiction of the woman’s accessories. The pearl earring, the delicate bracelet, and the glass of wine are rendered with meticulous care, adding to the sense of sophistication and grace that the painting exudes. These elements also serve to highlight the woman’s refined taste and the luxurious nature of her leisure time.

Thematically, IT’S MAGIC aligns perfectly with the overall theme of THE BEST IS YET TO COME series, which explores notions of hope, anticipation, and the enjoyment of life’s finer moments. The title itself suggests a sense of wonder and the enchantment that can be found in everyday experiences. This painting, with its focus on a single, serene moment, invites viewers to pause and appreciate the beauty and magic in their own lives.

Nina Nolte’s style in this series combines realism with a touch of idealism. The realistic portrayal of the woman and the setting is enhanced by the almost surreal quality of the light and colors, creating a harmonious blend of the real and the ideal. This approach not only makes the scene relatable but also elevates it to a level of poetic beauty.

In conclusion, IT’S MAGIC by Nina Nolte is a captivating and elegant artwork that beautifully captures a moment of tranquil luxury. Through her masterful use of color, light, and detail, the artist creates a scene that is both visually stunning and emotionally resonant.

BACKGROUND TO THE SERIES THE BEST IS YET TO COME

The series THE BEST IS YET TO COME by Nina Nolte depicts elegant women, good friends in their fifties, who refresh themselves in the pool and exchange thoughts, often with a drink in hand. The models for this series were often her friends, who would meet after work during the summer in one of their pools.

Before the photo shoot, they would inspect the props and prepare each other—tying turbans, applying makeup, choosing sunglasses, and matching accessories.

The photos formed the foundation for the later artworks. Nina Nolte used them to create compositions, crafting her own reality which she then painted. Some of these compositions consisted of up to 60 photo snippets. The materials she used for the artworks were acrylic and color pencils on canvas.

In the series, Nina Nolte captures moments of reflection after conversations, where the women, feeling unobserved, ponder their thoughts. This results in natural, unposed scenes. These moments are often painted from a bird’s-eye view, intentionally placing the viewer in the role of a voyeur.

What do these women’s conversations revolve around? Confidential topics that touch on life, the past, present, and future. The series is meant to be understood with a wink and a nod. Silence, too, can be a bond.

Additionally, with this series, the artist pays homage to the 1950s, a decade she feels a strong connection to. It was an era when women loved to dress elegantly, fashion was stunning, and cars (now beloved classics) had character and fantastic design.
