Description of the Original Artwork MY RED CADILLAC

MY RED CADILLAC is an exquisite artwork measuring 115 x 130 x 4 cm (45 x 51 x 1.5″). It forms part of the Nina Nolte series WHEELS AND WINGS.

The red Cadillac convertible, specifically a 1958 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz, is painted from an elevated angle, showcasing this way the sleek lines and elegant design of its front. The car stands on a white and black patterned marble floor, adding to the sense of luxury and sophistication.

This classic vehicle is polished to a high gloss, with seats and an open top made of black leather. Its long hood, twin headlights, and massive bumper with two protruding horns – resembling sharp torpedo heads – make this imposing car a real eye-catcher. It is one of the artist’s favorite cars.

Nina Nolte created this artwork in 2003 in her studio in Marbella. This piece is a heartfelt homage to her mother’s beautiful Cadillac in the 1950s in El Salvador, where the artist was born. Although Nina Nolte was too young to remember the car firsthand, the photographs and films from that era have always touched her deeply. These images depict her young mother proudly posing next to her Cadillac or washing it, capturing moments of pride and joy that have left a lasting impression on her daughter, Nina Nolte.

The creation process of MY RED CADILLAC is meticulously documented through a series of photographs, capturing the transformation from a blank canvas to the finished masterpiece. This photo documentation provides a unique glimpse into Nina Nolte’s creative process, showcasing the evolution of her vision and the meticulous effort involved in bringing it to life. Each step of the process is recorded, allowing viewers to appreciate the labor and love that went into the creation of this artwork.

MY RED CADILLAC is cataloged in the archive of Nina Nolte, bearing the number S1474. This archive is a comprehensive collection of her work, containing more than 1800 cataloged artworks. The meticulous documentation of each piece ensures that Nolte’s artistic legacy is preserved for future generations. The inclusion of MY RED CADILLAC in this archive highlights its significance within her body of work.

The painting itself is a vibrant celebration of the past, rendered with the artist’s signature style and attention to detail. The use of bold colors and dynamic composition brings the scene to life, inviting viewers to share in the nostalgia and admiration Nina Nolte feels for classic cars. This car in particular, depicted with loving precision, stands as a symbol of elegance and pride, embodying the spirit of a bygone era.

In the 1980s, the artist’s passion for classic cars led her to import two rare 1950s Mercedes from Cuba to Germany. This endeavor reflects her dedication to preserving the elegance and charm of vintage automobiles, mirroring the admiration she held for her mother’s Cadillac. The decision to import these cars also speaks to her adventurous spirit and commitment to reviving the beauty of the past.

In conclusion, MY RED CADILLAC is not just an artwork; it is a deeply personal homage to a cherished family legacy. Created with meticulous care and inspired by the artist’s profound connection to her mother’s Cadillac, the painting stands as a testament to Nina Nolte’s artistic vision and emotional depth. Through her vibrant colors and dynamic composition, the artist invites viewers to join her in celebrating the timeless beauty of classic automobiles and the cherished memories they evoke.

This piece, cataloged in her extensive archive, ensures that the legacy of both the artist and her inspiration will endure for generations to come.
