The composition presents an aerial view of two women standing in a turquoise-blue swimming pool, a perspective that adds a unique and engaging dimension to the artwork. The women are the central focus, their interaction subtly highlighting the themes of leisure and companionship.

The left woman, in a black swimsuit, wears a bright yellow headscarf that adds a vibrant pop of color against the blue water. Her posture is relaxed, suggesting a moment of quiet contemplation or casual conversation. The light casting gentle shadows on her form enhances the three-dimensional quality of the painting.

Her friend to her right wears a magenta swimsuit and a patterned black-and-white turban. In her hand she has an unlit cigarette. She seems to observe something in the distance.

The use of a vivid color palette of the artist Nina Nolte is striking; with the clear blue of the pool water serving as a dominant background that contrasts beautifully with the women’s colorful attire. The clarity and smoothness of the water are depicted with meticulous attention to detail, capturing the way light interacts with the surface. Nina Nolte’s style merges realism with subtle abstraction, particularly in the portrayal of water and light, infusing the piece with a dynamic and lively quality.

The setting is minimalistic, focusing entirely on the women and the pool. This simplicity directs the viewer’s attention to the subjects, allowing for a deeper connection with the scene. The soft ripples in the water and the play of light create a realistic yet tranquil ambiance, enhancing the sense of peace and leisure.

The artwork explores themes of friendship, relaxation, and the intersection of modern life with moments of tranquility. The women’s turbans and swimsuits evoke a sense of casual elegance, underscoring themes of self-care and togetherness.

The painting evokes a sense of calm and quiet joy. The intimate interaction between the women, combined with the serene pool setting, creates a reflective and soothing atmosphere. The viewer is drawn into this tranquil moment, feeling the warmth of the sun, the coolness of the water, and the simple pleasure of companionship.

In summary, Nina Nolte’s WITH A SONG IN OUR HEARTS is a beautifully crafted depiction of modern leisure and friendship.
